Online Play Recommendations

Welcome to Terra Anvil Online Play Recommendations Page. We’ve put together what we think, in our opinion, is a decent, low cost, minimal setup to enjoy our online games. Below you will find our recommended hardware needed for your computer to get the most out of our games.

Fondry VTT

Foundry VTT is our go to virtual tabletop due to is versatility and capabilities for almost any system on the market today. It may seem intimidating the first time you use it but your Game Master will give you all the tutorials you need and guide you during your sessions if needed.

Foundry VTT will run on any modern computer and is free for our players to use. Per the recommended client specifications outlined at the Foundry VTT Minimum Requirements Page we recommend the following:

  • Monitor with at least 1920x1080p resolution.
  • Chrome or Chromium Based browser such as Edge work best.
  • At least 16GB of RAM on your system.
  • Will not run on phones, tablets, or Chromebooks.

Audio/ Video

Terra Anvil GM’s insist on good communication devices to ensure proper immersion into the game for our players. Most general computer users unfortunately don’t know what “good” is so here are a couple of pointers to help.

Camera

You don’t have to break the bank on a web camera. Retailers generally carry decent quality USB web cameras around $25.

  • Recommend 1080p.
  • Auto Focus is nice but not required.
  • Most mid grade laptops come with a built in 1080p camera.
  • Recommend cameras with front facing light or light behind your monitor which can help everyone see you better.

Camera use will be decided by the group during session zero.

Microphone

A quality microphone is crucial to online game play. We highly recommend noise cancelling microphones to ensure clear uninterrupted communication.

  • Noise Cancelling.
  • Headset preferred.
  • Prefer not to use built in laptop microphones.

Headphones/ Earbuds

A good set of headphones or earbuds will ensure you don’t miss any of the action in game!

  • If using wireless headphones, earbuds, or headset make sure it has good battery life. Around 5 hours should be plenty.
  • Adjustable volume control on the device helps but not required.

Be Considerate

  • Keep background noise to a minimum so that everyone can focus on the game. Use the microphone mute button to deal with background noise issues.
  • Ensure your camera background is kept clear of offensive and derogatory material.
  • Follow our Table Top Role Playing Code of Conduct.
