Traveller Creature: Scytheran

The Scytheran are a hostile insect like species which can live in a semi-arid to tropical climate zone. Generally, you won't find them in cold or dry climates and can handle average to low gravity.

Description:

These are carnivore meat eating machines which are very hostile to any form of life. They stand 4 to 4.5 feet tall (1.2 to 1.4 meters) with 6 legs which the front legs having very long bonelike structures that come to a point and are very sharp. The edges of these bone structures are sharp as well like a scythe use for catching and slicing up prey into smaller pieces. The top of the body is elongated about 5 feet (1.5 meters) long with spikes along it's back. The skin is a dark soft exoskeleton.

Two large eyes atop a head filled with and elongated mouth of sharp teeth. The sides of the mouth hold two 3 feet (1 meter) long tentacles for pulling food into its mouth.

Traits:

Scytheran are small nocturnal pack creatures usually in a group of 3 or 4. By means of ambush they catch their prey either by perching on tree, rock, or by hiding under rocks or in caves. They're eyes provide perfect night vision and tend to stay away from light sources as it's very disorientating to them.

Once they spot prey the chase down and use their scythe like front legs to stab and slice their victim until death. Using the same arms, they chop up their prey into smaller pieces and the tentacles next to their mouth pull the meat in.

During the day they may burrow into lose soil, hide in caves, or lurk under rocks. They generally do no move from that space until nightfall.

They reproduce using by laying 4 to 5 eggs which locals will call a "Crate". Each crate takes 7 to 8 weeks to hatch.
